Retsidisitswe Ngqekeza was born in 2003, in the small rural town of Mohale’s Hoek in Lesotho.
In his formative years his parents separated and his mother moved back to South Africa
with him to Qwaqwa in the Free State Province. His passion and love for the visual arts
was inspired by his father who was a clay maker and he began to play using clay, draw
and paint. Little did he know that he was doing art, it was only in the Free State province
where he discovered that he was an artist when he was carrying his file of Art and had
encounter of Artists who had a group exhibition in the Freedom Square, where he met Mr
Kganyago, an artist whom he showed his art file to. He then invited him to join artists after telling him that he was a skillful artist. He then join the community of art in Freedom Square.
As a young artist, his career is just beginning. He has only participated in the group
exhibition in 2018 at Freedom Square in Free State.
In 2021, he moved to Johannesburg August House to assist a renowned artist, Mr Teboho
Makoatsa who mentored him and learned more from him until he became ready to have

Retsidisitswe is definitely an artist to watch out for in the future. With his talent and passion
for the visual arts, he is bound to make a significant impact in the art world. He hopes to
one day have his own solo exhibition and to inspire other young artists to follow their
