Mandisi Mncela is a full time artist that specialises in mosaic art, painting and mixed media. Mncela studied visual arts at Community Arts Projects in 2000. Thereafter he worked at Nyanga Arts Development Center where he found platforms in painting and facilitating at schools and after school community programmes. In 2015, Mncela obtained a three-year certificate in professional mosaic art at Spier arts academy in Cape Town. His work is focused on portraiture and figures - where his personal expression reflects his inspiration from African history, spirituality and religion. Mncela uses natural stone, bricks, ceramics, mali tiles and man made industrial material for mosaic artworks. He has been involved in group exhibitions at Art B, AVA, Cape gallery and Greatmore studios. In 2015, he participated in an residency, ”RITES and DUTIES”, at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, produced by COOP COFFE company sculpture. During his time at Spier arts in 2016, Mncela's confidence grew and allowed him to become one of the mosaic facilitators in Sports ground produkte mark hall at Vredendal under Greatmore art studios in 2017. Mncela is currently working with Thomarts Gallery and his works have sold in the United States, France and Germany.
