Abiola Olabamiji
Abiola Olabamiji (b. 1992, Ibadan, Nigeria) is a contemporary artist. Inspired by the works of Chuck Close, Abiola embarked on his professional art career in 2021, after exploring various creative mediums. His work focuses on inner hardships and resilience of African men, expressed through his signature use of palm fronds patterns and intricate texture. His subjects, depicted in bold hues of black, brown, purple, and green reflect the contemporary life and aspirations of the African man.
Abiola primarily works with oil and acrylic on canvas, crafting portraits that evoke the strength, dignity, and stability of Black culture. He draws inspiration from Yoruba philosophy, aiming to bring its significance into the modern Renaissance through his art. According to Abiola, the texture of palm fronds symbolizes the resilience of African life, akin to the palm tree's endurance against powerful storms.
