Nabeeha Mohamed
Nabeeha Mohamed (b. 1988, Cape Town) is an artist whose work deeply examines identity and class privilege in post-Apartheid South Africa. A 2011 graduate with a specialization in painting from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, Mohamed's personal experiences are vividly reflected in her art. Growing up as a woman of colour in a predominantly white society, her paintings now celebrates colour, boldness , and strangeness, juxtaposed with a critique of capitalism and class privilege.
Mohamed has exhibited in numerous group shows, including prestigious platforms like the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice and the SMITH Studio in Cape Town. She completed a residency at Casa de IIhabela in Brazil in 2017, and in 2020, she held her first solo exhibition, 'Sunshine on my skin is my favourite colour' at the SMITH in Cape Town.
