Artist Nomvula Hoko

Nomvula Hoko, a talented artist born 1996 October 29, born at Sebokeng currently resides at Soweto. She embarked on her artistic journey during her high school years under the guidance of Senzeni Marasela and Lucas Matjila. It was here that Nomvula's passion for art blossomed, leading her to pursue a career in the field.

After studying at Walter Sisulu University for a Diploma in Fine Arts, Nomvula furthered her education by enrolling in the Advanced Diploma of Fine and Applied Arts at Tshwane University of Technology. Along the way, her exploration of different artistic, where she discovered the captivating world of printmaking under the mentorship of Luzuko Dayile. Printmaking became more than just a technique for Nomvula; it became a profound form of expression that shaped her artistic voice.

Nomvula's art delves deep into themes of spirituality, identity, and ancestral calling. Her unique perspective on life, culture, and the spiritual dimensions of existence are intricately woven into her work, drawing viewers into a world where art transcends boundaries and connects souls on a profound level.

Nomvula's artistic accomplishments include hosting a printmaking and art business workshop, curating a group exhibition in 2024, and working with the Art and Ubuntu Trust as a printmaker facilitator in the same year. She also secured the Best 2D Art Award at the prestigious 2023 MEC Eastern Cape Heritage Awards. Nomvula has enriched her artistic journey by working as an assistant printmaker for Blessing Ngobeni at Art Lefatshe and as an assistant art teacher at Pj Simelani Secondary School. In 2023, Nomvula captivated audiences with her academic solo exhibition, "Woman in Process," at the esteemed Artroom Gallery, exploring themes of womanhood and transformation on her spiritual quest and as an academic research.

As a member of The Printmaking Girls in South Africa, Nomvula continues to refine her craft and expand her artistic horizons. With a deep-rooted desire to explore the intricacies of her cultural heritage and personal odyssey, she aims to create poignant and thought-provoking artworks that resonate deeply with viewers, offering glimpses into a world where art serves as a bridge between hearts and minds.
