Babalwa Tom

Babalwa Tom

Babalwa Tom is a multidisciplinary creative from Cape Town. She weaves her photography, illustration and paintings to create patterns that express how reality is generated in a recursive fashion. She uses this insight to illuminate many puzzles of social and cultural artistic matter through her art.

Babalwa Tom's works are inspired by how the body and social perceptions interchange between spaces: how the body and natural forms are one connected energy. Tom offers another discourse to what we are, what nature is, what energies are, what surrounds us in our spaces, that which are known and unknown. With this investigation and creation, works of print and illustration are created, of pattern work from natural elements and forms from imaginative intuition. She sees her works as therapeutic pieces.
