Matt Slater
Matt Slater (b. 1994) is a Cape Town-based photographer who delves into themes of nature, impermanence, transience, and mortality. His exploration of the photographic medium blends archaic processes with contemporary technology, creating a unique visual language. After studying at the Cape Town School of Photography, Slater's career gained momentum. In 2017, he participated in an Artist in Residence programme at Amplify Studios, showcasing his work "The Arboretum".
In 2018, he published his debut book "Efflorescent Cherry" through Quiet Sun Books.His work has been featured in Od Review, Musée Magazine, Conde Nast House and Garden, GUP Magazine, and Phases Magazine. He has held multiple solo shows and participated in several group exhibitions across South Africa. In 2020, his series "Autumnal Glimpses" was a finalist for Klompching’s Fresh 2020 at Klompching Gallery in NYC and was included in FotoFilmic’s JRNL 5, guest-edited by Elisa Medde of Foam Magazine.
