Purity Mutua is a 20-year-old, Nairobi-based Calligrapher and Watercolour
artist.A self-taught artist, Mutua pursues originality with a specific interest in calligraphy, utilizing skillful mimicry and dynamism. Ignoring neat lines and making letters into images without form, Mutua creates nuances of thoughtless wave of words that spew our from random ideas. Her interest in language and words span from The Bible, scrabble, literary fiction, hieroglyphs to the beautiful letters of different languages. The strokes she uses combine the power of a single letter and the symbolism that each shaped letter carries to tell a story.
