Michael Mansfield
Michael Mansfield was born in the 20th century and will die in the 21st. Born in 1964 Windhoek, Namibia, he worked as a journalist in Windhoek in the 80s and 90s. After a period in Cape Town, the artist returned to Swakopmund in 2000, where he resides till today. The multidisciplinary artist illustrated the Go For English for Gamsberg Macmillan for more years than he cares to remember, and remained consistent to his practice for many years before he had the opportunity to start exhibiting. The artist has mainly exhibited locally, the most notable being at the National gallery of Namibia with a show titled Who Killed Mr Art? Over the last couple of years Mansfield has hosted multiple solo exhibitions in Swakopmund and in Windhoek. The most recent of these was Still Life Stories, hosted at local gallery The Project Room. The artist remains committed to raising eyebrows and shifting perspectives, with his tongue-in-cheek approach for years to come.
