Mary Holland was born in the United Kingdom in 1972, her parents relocated to Johannesburg early on and the Highveld became home. Mary attended Woodmead school and followed high school with a Bachelor of Arts, Fine Arts degree (BAFA) at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in Johannesburg. Here she was led in painting by luminaries like Penny Siopis, Clive van den Berg and in drawing by Karel Nel. Her practice followed on from her work in the studio whilst at Wits. A consummate painter, Mary’s subjects varied from portraiture to landscape. She has had exhibitions in London and a number of solos in South Africa, mainly with Dawid Ras Gallery in Sandton.
