Alex Coetzee

Alex Coetzee (b. 1991, Pretoria) is a Cape Town-based artist and architect whose interdisciplinary practice merges the rigour of his architectural training with the expressive potential of fine art. He holds a Master's degree in Architecture and a postgraduate diploma in Printmaking from the University of Cape Town's Michaelis School of Fine Art, a dual background that informs his entire creative output.

At the core of Coetzee's work is a fascination with the relationship between representation and reality. Through a practice that spans sculpture, printmaking, and installation, he meticulously explores the interplay of geometric form, colour, and figurative association. His current body of sculptural work is noted for being both playful and precise, creating a compelling dialogue between abstract shapes and the familiar world they evoke. His work has been featured in notable solo exhibitions, showcasing his unique position at the intersection of two distinct, yet complementary, creative fields.
