Themba Sibeko

Themba Sibeko (b. 1994, Johannesburg) is a self-taught artist who studied Analytical Chemistry at the University of Johannesburg. Inspired by his studies, which focus on the bonding between atoms and elements, Themba translates this concept into his art practice to explore human connections. Influenced by the people around him, his work is a contemplative study of the unknown possibilities of entering new scenarios, situations, relationships, and territories in people's lives.
The removal of facial features in his art signifies the need for recognition, approval, and a sense of belonging. Themba's work also questions authentic human interactions by removing the stigmas attached to human connections, reminding everyone that we are humans first. His work was recently featured in a group exhibition titled “My First Love.”
