In ‘Reciprocity’, Southwood evokes a sense of idyllic beauty and playfulness, through the use of bold, textured brushwork. Her elaborate impasto technique brings forth expressive and sculptural surfaces that seem to leap from the canvas. It’s as though the paint itself becomes an active participant in the creation of the image, forming a rich and tactile geography with the strokes of oils.
