Centred around the idea of life and its source, this painting portrays a colourful world, home to four
pregnant women. The maternal figures are each seen with their gaze turned away from what is visualised as a bright centre, seemingly detached from their present reality - opting for a virtual one.
The umbilical chord is understood as both the physical and emotional attachment between mother and fetus. As the lifeline to each unborn child, who is infomed by a connstructed perception of reality, the artist uses this idea to invoke thoughts of a near and uncertain future. Furthermore, he ponders on the idea of reality and the implications of how it is defined - whether by real-world events, one's perceived reality, or one's chosen and constructed version of it.
