Latitudes Centre for the Arts| Playgrounds

In collaboration with Eleven Editions, David Krut Projects, Artist Proof Studio, W17 Gallery and Chelsea Selvan.  Playgrounds draws inspiration from the rules (or lack thereof) of the very locale from which it garners its name. Specifically, it relishes in the playful elements of printmaking. While printmaking ought to be justly revered for the masterful technique necessary to bring about the works, this exhibition highlights the playfulness that manages to peek through in both process and portrayal. Even in the most thorough of printmaking processes, artists and printmakers alike embrace the moments of spontaneity. The devilishly delightful breadth of play spans across subject, tone and style. For some of the artists featured here, the works are deviations in their subject matter or usual style. For other artists, they dig their heels into the proverbial ‘sandbox’ sand and stay true to the charming whimsy of their work.

Above all, Playgrounds remains true to Latitudes Centre for the Arts’ dedication to being a neutral space for independent artists, design studios, NGOs,  printmakers, galleries and independent curators to colour outside the lines.
