Nikhil Tricam

Nikhil Tricam
Nikhil Tricam is a South African artist based between Johannesburg and Durban. Tricam trained as an architect and his work focuses on the human relationships and experiences formed within, and against, the back-drop of the urban realm - with a focus on large scale ink and acrylic gestural works. Tricam draws on his experience in the realm of design to inform his narratives, while absorbing elements of contemporary art, street art and abstract expressionism to root his compositions in time. This body of work investigates the experience of our bodies within the physical spatial realm we inhabit. The figures, objects and marks are memories of elements inherent to our understanding of habitat. Geometric forms become caves, mountains or buildings. Bold, dark strokes are vines, branches or electrical infrastructure in the urban wilderness.Through the complex geometric and spatial interplay of these elements, we are invited to contemplate our experience within our habitat.
