Abdus Salaam was born in 1989 in Cape Town. He is a self taught artist, photographer and videographer whose work begins in poetry and expands through his multi-medium practice. Having moved to LA when he was 10, he returned to Cape Town five years ago and has since focused on his artistic career. His work is contemporary in its theosophical minimalism, blending mediums and often focusing on the essence of each of the latter as the foundation of the work and its meaning. Salaam’s work serves as a bridge between the scientific and spiritual world, opening meanings to the former, inviting to the later. His mediums include 8x10 below photography, darkroom light painting/chemical manipulation, poetry, video, music, oil/acrylic on canvas and unconventional materials, clay, glass, stone and large scale installations. Salaam has exhibited in group shows with AVA, Smith Studios and Gallery MOMO. His work is held in numerous private collection
