Yenwa Gallery | Born From Stories
Yenwa Gallery | Born from Stories
Born from Stories features the compelling artworks of Nola Ayoola and Akintunde Disu. The exhibition, whose title comes from a quote by poet and novelist Ben Okri, highlights how both artists use layering, narratively and physically, to articulate profound stories of identity and transformation.
Nola Ayoola's collage works constructs complex visual stories that resonate with her deep reflections on identity, heritage, and womanhood. Each layered piece serves as a patchwork of personal history, assembled to convey stories that are as visually engaging as they are emotionally profound, reminiscent of hand-dyed indigo and weaving practices. Akintunde Disu incorporates screen printed layers that are finished by hand, adding depth and a tactile sense to each piece. Disu’s art not only reflects his personal history but also engages with broader cultural narratives, offering fresh perspectives through each layer of paint and texture.
Together, Ayoola and Disu’s works offer a dialogue that merges traditional and contemporary art forms to explore personal and collective heritage.
This show runs from 22 - 26 May 2024.
