Presented in foto philosophies, Slaying Afghanistan was shot in the summer of 2023 when the artist, Balnura Nussipova, traveled through the Pamir mountains and proceeded to live on the border zone, divided by the river Panj. In this image, Nussipova photographed her friend posing in the landscape while “slaying” his outfit".
Through a series of documentary photographs from her travels between 2018 and 2021, Nussipova’s engagement with film photography presents an autobiographical landscape of her journeys across Kazakhstan. Her series exposes a selection of her memories and encounters, which establishes a dialogue between the exchange of consciousness while tackling themes such as identity, political critique, friendship, and memory.
