Boitumelo Gaotlhaelwe
Boitumelo Gaotlhaelwe is an artist. He was born in Taung in the North West province of South Africa. where Raymond Dart made his historical discovery of the oldest human skill.
Gaotlhaelwe graduated from Mmabana art center in Taung in 200, where he majored in drawing and painting. He also completed the printmaking course at Artist Proof in 2016.
Gaotlhaelwe works in printmaking. his work references rock art paintings. He is interested in the process of degradation that leads to the ephemeral nature that affects rock art assemblages as they are read in the present. This brings forward questions about the length of life of an artwork against fading time. Often the reading from rock paintings results in meaning that is puzzling and distorted.
Gaotlhaelwe makes minimalist, almost abstract print work that can be perceived to be ' written backwards', to offer more complexity.
