Lyra Ouattara
Lyra Akissi Ouattara is an Ivorian sculptor and curator based in Abidjan. Her practice is rooted in her sense of culture, spirituality, and aesthetics developed during her childhood in Cote d’Ivoire. It explores the links between traditional codes, modern problematics and identity. Her preferred medium is clay, defining herself as an artist and healer, she creates objects of spiritual healing, shaping pathways through sculptural artefacts as portals. Currently, the forms she creates earth-side are coming to her through mediation as she believes these forms to be sent by Women ancestors, as tools to serve for reclaiming of Women sacred bodies and spirits. After training in Arts Administration and Communication at the University of Ottawa, she returned to Abidjan, where she began her career as a sculptor in 2023.
