Ben Agbee

Ben Agbee (b. 1966 in Accra, Ghana) is a seasoned painter and portraitist known for his bold and colourful work that reflects the vitality and convivial nature of his locality. His playful poetic abstractions illuminate the balance between individuality and the wider community sphere. Full name Benjamin Agbenyega, Agbee was the first of three children born to Emmanuel Agbenyega.

During his school days, he found that creativity and art came naturally to him, becoming his easiest form of expression. Graduating with a major in art in 1989, Agbee initially worked in advertising and design. However, the harsh realities of life led him to augment his earnings by painting, quickly realizing his innate talent.

Coming from a family of great artists, notably his uncle Victor Ameyibor, a professional artist in the Volta region of Ghana, Agbee has participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Ghana and abroad. His solo exhibitions include shows in the USA (Washington, Chicago, Detroit), Canada, and Holland. Agbee's work is celebrated for its vibrant and informative exploration of individuality and community.
