Jana Kolodziej

Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Jana Kolodziej enjoys deconstructing and playing with images to capture their essence. Through this process, the image transforms into an idea, leading to the development of a theme.

For Jana, the process of printmaking is unpredictable, shaped by numerous factors that influence the final outcome. She finds this unpredictability liberating, as it encourages letting go of expectations. In this way, creating a print becomes a journey of discovery rather than a predetermined act.

Jana also appreciates the physicality of printmaking, embracing the marks left by the medium and tools while working intuitively to find the right rhythm. Born in East Germany, she studied Fine Art at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, graduating with a degree in Fine Art and Sculpture. After completing her studies, Jana relocated to Cape Town, South Africa.
