Thanduxolo Nombali Phakati (b. 1994, Greytown, KwaZulu Natal) is a self-taught artist who has developed a distinctive voice in the world of contemporary art. Raised in Dundee, where she currently resides, Thanduxolo began her artistic journey in 2019 as a means of escaping the demands of her academic studies at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, from which she graduated with an undergraduate degree.

Thanduxolo's art is characterized by a rich exploration of color, texture, and composition, drawing inspiration from her upbringing and the diverse environments she has encountered. Her work delves deeply into themes of identity, womanhood, and the human experience, often reflecting the nuanced interplay between belonging and otherness, familiarity, and the unknown.

Her artistic process involves a mix of traditional and contemporary drawing mediums, creating a visual language that is both vibrant and evocative. Thanduxolo's use of bold colors and intricate patterns brings a dynamic energy to her pieces, inviting viewers to engage with her personal narratives and the stories of the women who have influenced her life.

Currently a featured artist in the upcoming exhibition 'Embodied Narratives,' Thanduxolo continues to captivate audiences with her innovative approach to visual storytelling. Her work not only serves as a reflection of her personal journey but also as an invitation for others to explore and appreciate the complexities of cultural identity and human connection.
