Ndlovukazi Ngilande
My work is about embracing and appreciating women, their beauty, power and roles in
society. The aim of my pieces is to honour and ensure a continuous appreciation of
isicholo and its significance, even for future generations.
Influenced by my roots and surroundings, I’ve always been fascinated by the beauty and
intricacies of African art, and I strive to represent and honour it in my own way. My pieces
pay homage to what was started by my ancestors. By using traditional techniques and
incorporating modern elements in my pieces, I aim to bridge the gap between the old
and the new.
My goal is to have every married women own an Isicholo sculpture in her household which will serve as a symbol of her marital status.
