Yasmine Amal

Yasmine Amal is a self-taught artist and political scientist born to Moroccan parents in Germany. Through her art, she delves into the dynamic relationship between deepening her ancestral ties and fulfilling her role in contemporary society, particularly as an intersectional feminist. She is currently an art fellow at laba Berlin and Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien, where she translates lessons on social cohesion  between jewish and muslim indigenous life in Morocco through art.

Her Afro-Arab  heritage forms the foundation of her creativity, nourished by her profound connection to the ocean and influenced by her desire to contribute to collective pursuits. Yasmine explores what it means for her to be Indigenous to a land, from honoring traditions to embracing environmental responsibility. She draws much of her visual language and color palette from the marine world, with her paintings often evoking the dynamics of coral reefs, reminiscent of Amazigh symbols.

Understanding that she, too, will become an ancestor, Yasmine seeks to harness the transformative potential of art to create spaces for cross-cultural dialogue and collective values.
