Pauline Mazibuko

Pauline Mazibuko
Pauline Mazibuko's (b. 1972) work deals mainly with women and children and the everyday struggles they go through. She grew up in a community where being a woman was viewed as being less than perfect; witnessing a lot of female and children abuse as a norm in the community. Mazibuko was raised by both my parents, her father showed respect and love to her mother. And in turn, taught him how not to be treated badly by anyone. Mazinuko's parents taught her self-respect and to never accept less than what one deserves. Makibuko's home became a sanctuary when all you see around you is heartache. Most, if not all Mazibuko's works, are a recollection of what she saw and experienced in her youth, of how she imagined the women/children felt. Her work also reflects their need to be seen and heard, their reason to go on another day amidst the heartache and pain they experienced daily. Mazibuko depicts how these mothers and children always found a way to smile, love, and be free. "The world should see that it doesn't take much for someone to love, laugh and cry. Small things that may seem non-important to you, mean the world to someone else." says Maibuko.
