Ruby Swinney

Since graduating from the Michaelis School of Fine Arts in 2015, Swinney has hosted two solo exhibitions with Cape Town gallery, WHATIFTHEWORLD, as well as a solo show with AKINCI Gallery in Amsterdam. In 2018, Swinney’s solo exhibition Human Nature was exhibited at Zeitz MOCAA – South Africa’s foremost contemporary art museum. Swinney’s work is included in various public and private collections both across South Africa and internationally.

In a remarkable pursuit into printmaking, Swinney produced this enchanting edition of 25 works in the medium of stone lithography, the oldest printmaking technique in the world with New Normal Projects. In fact, the word ‘lithography’ comes from the Greek description: an image from stone. To create her lithograph, Swinney drew her image onto a limestone slab using oil-based drawing materials that repel water but accept ink.
