Marie Kenny

Marie Kenny (b. 1984), a self-taught contemporary lens-based artist from Lyon, France, has been passionate about art from a young age. After studying the cello at the Conservatoire de Lyon, she moved to the UK and Ireland in her early twenties to further her studies in music, language, art history, and literature.
Motherhood, particularly raising neurodivergent children, deepened her commitment to photography, which she uses as a tool to navigate and understand the world, and explore her own neurodivergence. Radical acceptance and mindfulness are central to her practice.
Marie’s work merges documentary style with painterly qualities, using light, movement, and framing to create images that feel both immediate and timeless. Her art explores themes such as identity, cultural and familial heritage, and neurodivergence, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where fleeting, nuanced moments are celebrated.
Marie draws inspiration from her experiences and has been a mentee of the Through the Lens Collective.
