Tiaan van Deventer

Tiaan van Deventer
Tiaan van Deventer is a multidisciplinary visual artist with analog photography being his primary medium of expression. His work also comprises a mixture of video, painting, sculpture, and assemblage. His art is first and foremost an investigation into the subconscious dystopian state of the human mind. He explores this and other darker Surrealist themes by means of framing paradoxical symbols onto the photographic emulsion. Images are made in-camera without any digital manipulations taking place. Male angst is a primary driver in his work, which can be seen with countless contorted male nude figures which are a recurring symbol in his work. His creative approach is grounded in reality with a documentary approach to his imagery. His latest project “Die Uitgewerptes” focuses on homeless Afrikaner men caught up in the battle of drug addiction.
