Nicole Clare Fraser
Nicole Clare Fraser (b. 1989) is a Cape Town-based image maker and artist whose work focuses on built structures, interior spaces, and objects that evoke human presence, absence, loneliness, and tenderness. Her passion for photography ignited in high school, where she developed a deep appreciation for silver gelatin hand prints through darkroom work. This foundational interest led her to further her studies at Michaelis School of Fine Art, where she earned hr BAFA in 2012 and MFA in 2022.
In addition to her personal artistic practice, Nicole is a photography lecturer specializing in darkroom techniques and printing. She has taught at various secondary and tertiary institutions in Cape Town and has enhanced her expertise through workshops with master printer Dennis Da Silva in Johannesburg.
Nicole's solo exhibitions include "Making Space: Traces of Absence, Stillness and the In-Between in Public Spaces" (2021), which was re-exhibited at Daor Contemporary in 2023, "untitled (façade)" (2020), "a quiet place | a collection of hand-printed silver gelatin prints" (2018), and "Garrisons" (2012).
