Francesco Sambati (b. 1981; San Pietro Vernotico, Italy) is a contemporary film photographer, currently based in Lecce, Italy. Sambati graduated from the Liceo Artistico V. Ciardo in 2000 and subsequently initiated his photographic practice through mobile photography and thereafter digital and instant photography. Since 2014, Sambati has contributed to various digital media channels, including his first interviews and publications in a variety of photographic magazines (Witty Kiwi, Analog Magazine, Il Fotografo, Foto Cult, Hylas Magazine, Prime Edition Annual Journal, Blur Magazine, PhotoKlassik, Mauer Mag), in addition to his first book Aphasìa (2022). Sambati’s approach to Polaroid photography can be seen in his latest cycle of publications and exhibitions, including Diaspora (c. 2018-2019). His images interrogate themes of the unconscious mind, absence, and landscapes; all of which attempt to converge at a single meeting point. At present, Sambati is involved in an ongoing collaboration with Polaroid, engaging in various projects for new products.
