Birhanu Manaye
Birhanu Manaye was born in 1998 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His artistic journey began during his teenage years, significantly shaped by the inspiration of his older brother. With a passion for drawing ignited early on, Manaye pursued formal art education at Ale School of Fine Arts and Design (ASFAD), where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with the highest honors.
Manaye’s work explores profound and abstract concepts, delving into themes such as the subconscious, the ethereal nature of the universe, and the intricate relationships between patterns, textures, and memory. His art serves as a reflection on the complexity of existence, seeking to capture and express the intangible essence of the world around us.
A versatile artist, Manaye employs a wide range of media in his creative practice. His explorations span painting, woodcut, linocut, dry point print, photography, and most notably, silkscreen printing. His approach to art is characterized by a spirit of experimentation and innovation, as he continually seeks new techniques and methods to enrich his work.
