Tshepiso Mazibuko
Tshepiso Mazibuko (b. 1995, Thokoza, South Africa) is a talented photographer based in Johannesburg. Initially interested in journalism, she was introduced to photography through the Of Soul and Joy initiative at Buhlebuzile Secondary School. Her work tells the stories of her community, blending documentary realism with artistic expression. Notably, her photogravure series "Gone and Here" captures the essence of Thokoza with a dynamic interplay of light, focus, and composition.
Mazibuko's approach has earned her comparisons to renowned photographers like Santu Mofokeng and David Goldblatt. Her work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, including "Free from my Happiness" at the Johannesburg Art Gallery and "80 Days of Summer: Stories of Identity" at the Ghent International Photography Festival. She was selected for the Addis Foto Fest 2016 and awarded a Tierney Fellowship in 2017. Mazibuko continues to inspire with her powerful visual narratives.
