Aneesah Girie
Aneesah Girie (1999) is a South African artist based in Johannesburg. She holds a BAFA(Hons) from the University of Witwatersrand. Girie’s practice is centered around ideas pertaining to materiality: both of which is investigated through its physical forms as well as through metaphorical conceptions. She interested in how these meanings and interpretations are carried through: material identities, histories, identification, re-presentation, preservation, and continuity.
She has participated in multiple group shows both locally and abroad and was with awarded with multiple awards during her degree most notably, The Wits Young Artist Award of 2021. She has taken part in the RMB talent unlocked program in 2021 as well as the Unearthed mentoring programme with Turbine Art fair in 2022.
