Reneilwe Mathibe
Reneilwe (Rene) Mathibe is a painter and writer living and working in Johannesburg.
She was born in 1989 in the North West Province, South Africa. She completed her Technology in the Visual Arts degree at the University of Johannesburg with Painting as a major. She currently works as Drawing and Visual Literacy Facilitator at Artist Proof Studio. Recent group exhibitions include Coming of Age: 21 years of Artist Proof and Images of Women. She was involved in a mural painting at the new Steve Biko Museum in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Her work focuses on, and examines, themes such as sexuality and the pain felt by most lesbians owing to discrimination and hate. In her work this pain or discomfort is juxtaposed with soft and sensitive flesh.
