Kamogelo Litheko

Kamogelo "Monox" Litheko, originally from Parys in the Free State, is a self-taught artist whose work explores grief, love, and manhood through a Black lens. His creative journey began in photography and graphic design, but in 2021, he transitioned to painting as a way to express himself more freely. This shift allowed him to move beyond digital constraints, embracing the raw, instinctive nature of painting to tell deeply personal stories.
Influenced by skate culture, fashion, street art, and photography, Monox’s work is a reflection of his experiences navigating identity, emotion, and personal growth. His pieces embody a sense of imperfection, using layered textures and bold compositions to capture the complexities of the human experience. For him, painting is not just about creating image ,it is a therapeutic process, helping him make sense of the world and manage the stresses of city life while immersing himself within the culture to draw inspiration for his stories.
Through his art, Monox invites viewers into an intimate exploration of vulnerability and resilience in an attempt to reframe his perspective of the South African black experience. His evolving body of work continues to shape contemporary African art, offering a raw and honest perspective that speaks to both personal and collective experiences. Each piece stands as a testament to self-discovery and the power of visual storytelling.
