Segun Aiyesan

Segun Aiyesan
Segun Aiyesan is a self-taught artist who has practised his discipline professionally since 1997. Though interested in art from an early age, he would train as an engineer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and work as an oil rig engineer for Chevron before devoting himself fully to art. Aiyesan’s questing spirit and search for artistic eloquence are reflected in the eclectic, experimental and prolific nature of his practice, which maintains his clarity of vision even as he navigates between various stylistic modes of representation. Aiyesan works in pastels, watercolours, oils and acrylics, weaving expressive visual narratives of the vicissitudes of life, and has recently begun experimenting with collage, which has brought a sculptural quality to his paintings and increased the significance of texture in his practice. Previous exhibitions include La Floraison, Alexis Galleries, Lagos (2018); and Oil Man, Boys’ Quarters Project Space, Port Harcourt (2014).
