Queezy Babaz
Queezy Babaz (b. 1992) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans fine art, fashion, and performance. Through mediums such as printmaking, videography, drag performances, and DJ sets, Queezy constructs immersive worlds that blend fantasy with radical social commentary. Their work challenges and redefines the experiences of being queer and coloured in South Africa, deconstructing notions of masculinity, sexuality, and the body. Themes of gender norms and identity politics are central to their practice, where artistic craftsmanship meets authenticity to create pieces that are visually captivating and socially provocative.
Queezy's interactive artworks foster spaces of protest, empowerment, and celebration, disrupting normative narrative. Trained in pottery, painting, sculpture, and graphic design at Belgravia Art School, Queezy later earned a BTech in Fashion Design with a distinction in specialized clothing technology from Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Their performances have been featured at institutions such a Gallery MOMO, Zeitz MOCAA, AVA Gallery, World Art Gallery, and Norval Foundation, while her work has gained international recognition in publications including I-D Magazine, New York Times, NATAAL, Paper Magazine, and Vogue Italia.
