José Vermeij

José is an independent artist from the Netherlands, who joined The Printing Girls in 2020 when she lived in South Africa. She studied printmaking at Academie voor Schone Kunsten Arendonk, Belgium and got hooked.

On moving to South Africa, she found a printing studio to work from, but was able to buy her own press since then. Her love of photography and working in layers defines most of her print work. With cyanotype and collagraphs being her favourite print techniques, she often combines them into mixed media pieces. As a citizen of the world her work includes themes related to global warming, but also dives into social issues like the housing crisis and subjects related to her personal life.
