Yusuf Durodola

Durodola Yusuf (b. 1979) is a distinguished Nigerian painter and performance artist known for his innovative use of recycled waste materials. Born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Yusuf holds an NCE from the Federal College of Education, Akoka, and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Lagos.

His work confronts pressing socio-cultural issues, including social justice, environmental pollution, and the complexities of the human experience. A passionate advocate for environmentalism, Yusuf often engages the public directly through thought-provoking performance art. His pieces, such as the notable ‘Global Hues’, are a powerful call for collective action, underscored by his belief that "we are the change the world is earnestly awaiting."

Deeply rooted in his heritage, Yusuf draws inspiration from traditional Yoruba idioms, proverbs, and adages, which lend sincerity and cultural authenticity to his work. This focus on his cultural identity is evident not only in the Yoruba themes of his performances but also in the distinct patterns and material choices within his paintings and experimental art. Through his dynamic practice, Yusuf skillfully merges tradition with contemporary commentary, creating work that is both culturally specific and universally resonant.
