Nicolaas Maritz

Nicolaas Maritz (b. 1959, Pretoria), was surrounded by art from a young age due to his artistic family background. He held his first solo show at the Eastern Province of Fine Arts in Port Elizabeth in 1976 and began his fine art studies at the University of Cape Town in 1978. Maritz's works are known for their vibrant colours and expressive quality, ranging from still lifes and landscapes of cats.

Maritz is a multi-media artist, with a particular reputation for his works in enamel on board. Maritz lives in Darling, on the West Coast, where he showcases his art at the Maritz Museum, his former home and studio. His works are also featured in esteemed collections, including the Iziko South African National Gallery, the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, the Pretoria Art Museum, and the Johannesburg Art Gallery.
