Jesse Shepstone Visual Artist I am an Honour's student at the University of Johannesburg. My project this year has been an exploration of the found and family photograph. This line of enquiry interrogates memory, history and nostalgia. It also addresses how the photograph is directly connected to memory and the past. I wanted to explore this field because I have been intrigued with memory since I noticed that my own lies to me often and how susceptible I am to discrepancies. Moving past my personal memory I began to invest in the idea of allowing others to explore their own when looking at my work, resulting in the use of the found photograph which acts a cue to engage Proustian Nostalgia.
