Adilson De Oliveira

Adilson de Oliveira (b. 1998 in Bez Valley, Johannesburg), is a multidisciplinary artist, self-taught animator, and cultural practitioner. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University if Witwatersrand. De Oliveira initially worked as a printmaker, producing screen-prints for artist across Southern Africa, but grew disillusioned with the technical aspects of executing others' visions. This led him t explore technology as a creative assistant and collaborator.

In 2019, alongside Mzoxolo 'X' Mayongo, he co-founded 'The Magolide Collective'. De Oliveira's artistic practice has since evolved into what he terms a practice of deception, utilizing technology to challenge 'Western Art' historical narratives and aiming to create PC-generated work indistinguishable from physical objects. Employing drawing, video, printmaking, and particularly XR (Extended Reality) and AI as crucial tools for decoloniality, his work investigates and documents the metropolitan myths, legends, and socio-political realities of Johannesburg's Lusophonic (Luso-African) communities.

As of early 2025, De Oliveira continues to push technological boundaries in art and is a creative partner with the innovative AI video platform, Runway AI.
