Noa Hall

Noa Hall is a South African artist, she was born in 2000 in the city of Johannesburg.
After graduating with an honours degree in Fine Arts from the University of the
Witwatersrand in 2023 she, along with some fellow graduates, founded the artist colllective
and studio space House of Special Things where she continues to practice and collaborate.
Her work employs a range of mediums and techniques, traversing between video art,
painting, some printmaking and installation building. Hall enjoys creating large-scale
experiential artworks. Her painting practice consists of a curiosity around the graphic mark.
She draws inspiration from the versatility of image within social media, cartoons, the
internet, manga, comic books, posters and images confronted in everyday life. She
conceives of her work as claustrophobic mind-maps or orientation devices. Surfaces
onto which she can measures different objects and representations against one another
externally from herself.
She is interested in the predicament of inhabiting a body that is bound within space,
located amongst many other objects and beings - embedded within varying systems,
biological, interpersonal, social, technological, cybernetic and environmental. She uses her
work as a way to investigate and study this experience. Her work therefore often deals
with space, proximity, intimacy and suffering.
