Fair (2019), Turbine Art Fair (2022), Safim Gala Dinner Auction
with Strauss & Co (2023).
Steve Maphoso’s work is inspired by social and personal issues,
from memories to loss, and love.
As an African contemporary artist,
for the past decade my work had outdone the issues we face in
our daily lives. Turning to the present with renewed energy, I
find myself expressing my world with charcoal and paper. We
need to keep reminding ourselves who we are, and putting
images to our smallest triumphs even, so that we may show
pride through all our failures and accomplishments.
