Tshepo Sizwe Phokojoe (b.1995, Soweto) is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in Visual Arts and Fashion. Phokojoe's artistic journey includes participation in the 2017 Peer Mentoring program at Assemblage Studios under the guidance of Bronwyn Lace. He then went on to further enrich his professional experience through his roles as a
studio assistant to esteemed artists Nkhensani Rihlampfu and Nicholas Hlobo.
Phokojoe’s talent and dedication have been recognized with several prestigious awards and residencies. He was honored with the 2017 Merit Award by PPC IMAGINARIUM for the Fashion category and more recently, the 2023 Winner of the Blessing Ngobeni Art Prize; where he had his debut solo exhibition titled " Woven Comforts" at Everead Read
Circa in Johannesburg. Additionally, he was the recipient of the 2023 Bag Factory's Young/Unframed residency which also offered an opportunity for him to have his solo exhibition titled ' TO: IDENTITIES ' which was held in the Women's Jail at Constitutional
Hill. In 2024 he was selected as a participant of the RMB Talent Unlocked mentored by Ntate Kagiso Pat Mautloa and was also part of the 2024 cohort for the Rele Arts Foundations' Young Contemporaries residency hosted in Nigeria - with both residencies
culminating into group shows. He is currently part of the Bag Factorys' Studio community, lives and works in Johannesburg.
