After the party formed part of an exhibition of paintings produced to complement the 2024 Stellenbosch Woordfees theme Speel/Play. Based on a photograph drawn from the artist's personal archive of photographs, the painting references a scene from a party which, through details such as hairstyles and dress, situate the scene in the 1960s. Preller accentuates the technical failures and blur of the old black and white snapshot which adds to the sense of a (quirky, humourous) moment in time.
