Donatella Visagie
Donatella Visagie IS Fashion. She KNOWS Fashion. She has single-mindedly reinvented the sleeve, brought us Safari suits for the colour blind, everything she touches turns Platinum (or Gold / Copper / Silver / Bronze / Plate) she is a 'Clothes Whisperer' Born to Stefan (she calls him Papa Stefano) and Marie Visagie (maiden name unknown) Her father is South African and her mother is ....also South African although in Marie’s own imagination she was Italian after having listened to one too many Mario Lanza records (and young Donatella learnt opera from her Kimerra collection) this led to her calling her daughter Donatella (all Italian names were high on the list) Marie was a homemaker and this home was in a Tuscan style ‘Kompleks’ on the East Rand of Johannesburg en route to Pretoria, adjacent to the airport runway (for the larger craft, flights to International destinations) The music, the Italianate architecture for miles and miles, the energy and excitement of living so close to the landing strip must be what sparked a creative streak in young Donatella which in turn led to her fashion storm, some call it a cyclone.
