Artist Gladys Kalichini

Gladys Kalichini (b. 1989, Lusaka, Zambia) is a Zambian multidisciplinary artist and scholar whose work delves into themes of erasure, memory, and the visibility of women in colonial resistance histories. Her practice encompasses video, installation, and sculpture, often drawing from archival materials and research to challenge dominant narratives and highlight marginalized voices.

Kalichini holds a Master of Fine Art and a PhD in Art History and Visual Culture from Rhodes University in South Africa. She is also a member of the Arts of Africa and Global Souths research programme, supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Research Foundation.

Her notable exhibitions include "Seekers, Seers, Soothsayers" at Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town (2023), "Barmoko Encounters" at the African Biennale of Photography in Mali, "Geographies of Imagination: My Language is a Dedouin Thief" at the Kochi Biennale in India, and "For the Phoenix To Find Its Form In Us and On Restitution, Rehabilitation and Reparation" at SAVVY Contemporary in Berlin.
